It’s so much nicer to receive a handwritten thank you
Once upon a time, thank yous were always handwritten. Nowadays people go for something that’s quick and easy like a text. But, because they are so quick and easy on the receiving end of a text thank you it can sometimes feel a bit insincere. Like it’s been a last minute thought, and it can even get missed in all the other digital noise going on. While text messages can express gratitude, a handwritten note is usually considered way more personal and thoughtful.
When that handwritten note drops through your door with a bunch of bills it’s going to stand out and bring on an “ahhhh” with a big smile. So that time and money spent on finding you the perfect gift feels worth it.
Here are a few other reasons that may convince you that you should put pen to paper next time you need to say a really sincere thank you:
- A handwritten note has a really personal touch. It shows that someone took the time and effort to write a message by hand and that makes it feel so much more heartfelt and sincere.
- A handwritten note can be physically held. It can be kept as a keepsake and displayed in a prominent place, whereas a text message is easily lost or deleted. I still have some of my Grandparents’ thankyous they wrote to me and now they are not here anymore I’m so glad I kept them. When I re-read them and see the words they took the time to form on the page I feel closer to them and so glad I still have a bit of them with me.
- When writing a handwritten note, you can take the time to carefully choose your words. It’s a mindful activity that is proven to actually make you feel better after doing it. Text messages are often typed so quickly and in amongst other jobs, they usually don’t have the same attention to detail.
- A handwritten note can also include little hand drawings and other exciting things popped inside the envelope. You can choose ink colours that can make the letter feel even more exciting and cheerful, each letter can be tailored to the recipient.
